The FAA may assess civil penalties up to $27,500.00 and Criminal penalties can include fines of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment for up to three years.

Please, fly responsibly.

Operation Near Airport

The Madison Municipal Airport is a Class G airport in uncontrolled airspace. The Madison Municipal Airport requests that Drone or UAS operations to be reported within 2 statute miles of the airport by calling us at 812-273-1914. Additionally, we advise UAS operators to stay clear of the ends of the runways and approach paths. Conflicts with Aircraft or Airport Operations will not be tolerated and will be reported to the FAA.

UAS Operations within the Red Circle or within 2 Statute Miles of the airport have the highest risk of conflict with airport operations. Remain clear of Traffic Patterns and the Approach Ends of the Airport.

Recreational Drone Use

How to fly a drone recreationally:
  1. If your drone weighs more than .55 lbs, register your drone through the FAA's DroneZone
  2. Pass TRUST
  3. Follow safety guidelines on the FAA website or of an existing aeromodelling organization
All recreational flyers must pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and provide proof of test passage (the TRUST completion certificate) to the FAA or law enforcement upon request. The FAA's 2018 Reauthorization Bill (PDF) introduced new requirements for recreational pilots (see P.L. 115-254, Section 349 (PDF) – exception for limited recreational operations of unmanned aircraft).
